Blueprint Institute is looking for an early career professional with 1+ year(s) experience to join our team as a Researcher.
The ideal candidate will have a strong economics and/or public policy background (at the Honours or Masters level). Current students will be considered. Professional experience working in a policy setting (e.g., an internship in a policy research institute, the public service, or consulting to the public sector) would be beneficial.
For example, we could envisage hiring a recent economics Honours graduate with internships in a variety of public and private sector organisations. But many alternative paths could yield a suitable candidate.
In addition to the minimum requirements of strong training, aptitude, and experience, we are particularly interested in candidates with the following attributes, which are critical to our identity:
- policy vision;
- creativity; and
- attention to detail.
The successful applicant will work with Blueprint Institute’s CEO, Chief Economist, Director of Research & Operations, and talented research team to conduct cutting-edge analysis on public policy that benefits Australia. As a new think tank, we have a growing set of research interests, with the successful applicant playing a central role in shaping our future agenda. In 2021, our work will focus on:
- climate and energy policy;
- early learning reform; and
- tax and fiscal reform.
Benefits of this role
Blueprint Institute is a fast-paced and welcoming environment. Every piece of research is approached with rigour and creativity. We question our assumptions and seek novel perspectives on complex policy questions. The small nature of our team means that a successful candidate will work directly alongside senior leadership in shaping the Institute’s research agenda.
Our Chief Economist is also an Assistant Professor of Economics, usually based in the US, with connections to international academia and policy research. Working closely with our Chief Economist would be of great benefit to someone considering pursuing further graduate studies in economics. The Institute also has plans to pursue rigorous economic research as part of its ‘future work’ program.
Blueprint Institute’s research team is based in Sydney and Brisbane. We encourage flexible working arrangements, and largely work from home, though this may change in the future. We are open to discussing location and work hours. Office-based work may be possible.
About Blueprint Institute
High-quality policy research is at the heart of everything we do. However, we are also a start-up—we aim to disrupt the think tank landscape in Australia by providing novel insights to Ministers, MPs, and thought leaders.
We value curiosity, integrity, and diligence over formal qualifications or ‘signalled’ experience. If you are excited about improving public policy and Australian society, but have an unconventional work experience or educational background, please do get in touch.
Compensation and working hours
Compensation will be in the range of $65-80k per annum. Compensation will be finalised based on the experience and skills of the successful candidate. We are happy to consider part-time or flexible working arrangements.
